Who we are

Asli & Sel

We are a husband and wife team passionate about good-quality food. We were born and raised in Turkey and travelled all around the world as foodies. In 2011, we made a trip to Australia and New Zealand, and followed the wine trails in a campervan with two kids in tow. That’s when we have decided to move to NZ and make sunny Hawke’s Bay our home.

We have been lucky to work in what we love throughout our careers. Sel is a food process engineer and has a long history in olive oil and apple industries in managerial positions. His knowledge of food production means he upholds a dedication to consistent quality and delivery. Asli is a Bordeaux-trained winemaker, maintaining the quality while seeking out new flavour combinations is a must for her.

In 2020, during the first Covid-19 lockdown (and as a result of our long family walks) we decided to leave our corporate jobs and start something on our own. That’s when we learned that our favourite chocolate business was for sale. So here we are…

Our team is very eclectic, each bringing in a range of special talents that make our business work in an inclusive and organic way. We come together with our love of chocolate and a passion for ethical and sustainable business practices. We embrace the scientific and creative nature of our trade and love sharing it with our customers. 

Together, we are excited about the creative possibilities that La Petite holds and cultivating a business built on science, craft and spirit.
