Our Philosophy

La Petite Chocolate is an artisan chocolate shop and a creative confection kitchen locally owned and operated in Hawkes Bay. Our mission is to provide top quality chocolate products in the most environmentally and socially responsible way. Our chocolate has purpose. We believe in achieving commercial success while implementing ethical, honest and sustainable working practices.

Origins of our chocolate

Our chocolate is made with a strong and meaningful commitment to nature and people. We work with Kaoka, a market-leading French family business, pioneering in organic, fair-trade cacao production. Kaoka works in close partnership with almost 5,000 cocoa-farming families in Ecuador, São Tomé, Peru and the Dominican Republic supporting them to renovate their production and providing a higher price than the market average. As a result, both the quality and productivity are improved in these plantations and  growers earn a more sustainable income.

Why La Petite?

The La Petite team came together with a passion for creating the finest tastes to share with you, the chocolate lovers. Our chocolate bars, bonbons and confections are handmade with the finest organic, fair trade & single origin Kaoka couverture, and the ingredients used are selected carefully and sourced locally where possible.  

We put Ethics and Values constantly at the center of our work to make sure we make a positive impact not only on your taste buds, but on the environment and the community. We have opted for recyclable and compostable solutions to avoid unnecessary plastic. All our bars and bonbons are wrapped in special compostable packaging. All our packaging is made in house. 

As a part of our social responsibility, we like to get involved where we can. That is how our fundraising chocolate bars for Forest & Bird and the Women's Refuge came into existence. We support the Living Wage Movement and have had the Living Wage Employer Accreditation since 2020. 

La Petite can be found in over 50 stockists around New Zealand. Our chocolate couverture is used by some of the best New Zealand chocolatiers, confection and pastry chefs and we supply a range of products and custom labelled bars to businesses from lodges to organic shops,  BnBs to cafes and the likes.
